5 Day Northern Flinders Ranges

Spend five days 4WD touring the beautiful and rugged Northern Flinders Ranges. Experience and learn about Aboriginal culture, music, storytelling, bush food, art and environment from the Adnymathanha people.

Day One

We depart Adelaide at 7:00 am. At Port Augusta we visit the Wadlata Outback Centre, where we learn about the origins of the Flinders Ranges, the Aboriginal Dreaming, European settlement, Explorers, and much more.

After morning tea we head towards Wilpena Pound, travelling via Quorn and Hawker. From Hawker visit the Kanyaka Ruins and Death Rock. If you are feeling energetic you can enjoy a climb to the Yourambulla Caves to see Aboriginal rock painting. Then we continue to Wilpena Pound Resort with time before dinner for a peaceful bush walk to Wangarra Lookouts, which overlook Wilpena Pound.

We stay at Wilpena Pound Resort overnight.

Day Two

Today we travel to Iga Warta via Brachina Gorge. The gorge traces the geolocial history of the Flinders Ranges for hundreds of million of years. We can stop st the Prairie Hotel at Parachilna where we sample some Aussie Tucker.

After morning tea we head to Iga Warta and spend some time learning about the Aboriginal Adnymathanha people's culture and environment. We participate in a bush tucker walk and/or an Aboriginal art walk.

After dinner this evening, we spend some time sitting around a campfire, sampling traditional damper with quandong jam, listening to the stories and music of the Adnyamathanha People.

We stay at Iga Warta overnight.

Day Three

After breakfast we head to Arkaroola. We visit Paralana Hot Springs, where water emerges at 80 degrees Celsius from rocks containing Jasper and Ochre. Nearby is Yudnamutana Gorge, which is one of Australia's deepest gorges.

We also visit Stubbs Waterhole, an expanse of still water reflecting the blue sky and the green foliage of gum trees. It is delightfully set deep between towering, steeply-tilted layers of rock. The rocks were formed approximately 700 million years ago from the debris that was dropped by melting icebergs.

We stay overnight at Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary.

Day Four

After breakfast we head out to The Pinnacles, Bolla Bollanna Smelter, Nooldoonooldoona Waterhole and Wheel Turner.

Optional tours are available at your own expense, including an exhilarating 4WD Ridgetop Tour to the top of Sillers Lookout for stunning views of the Ranges, or perhaps take a scenic flight over the majestic ranges.
 Overnight Arkaroola Wilderness Resort.

Day Five

We depart Arkaroola for Adelaide, travelling via Chambers Gorge and Blinman. The next stop is Sacred Canyon, where we can take a short walk into the gorge. Sacred Canyon is one of the major Aboriginal art sites in the Flinders Ranges.

After lunch at Wilpena Pound Resort we head to Quorn. If time permits, we travel through Buckaringa Gorge and Warren Gorge. We stop for afternoon tea at Melrose and then continue the journey back to Adelaide, arriving at approximately 6:00 pm.
