5 Day Flinders Ranges Aboriginal Cultural

Day One

We depart Adelaide at 7:00 am, travelling via Port Pirie, Port Germein and Port Augusta (the crossroads of Australia).

After lunch we head towards Wilpena Pound via Quorn and Hawker. From Hawker we visit Kanyaka ruins and Death Rock. If you are feeling energetic we can climb up to see the Yourambulla Caves, where you will discover Aboriginal rock painting.

We spend the night at Wilpena Pound Resort, arriving at approximately 4:30 pm.

Day Two

After breakfast we head to Arkaroola, arriving at approximately 11:30 am.

We have lunch and then join the exhilarating Ridgetop Tour to the top of Sillers Lookout. After the bone-jarring 4WD trip, the view will make you feel as though you are on top of the world!

We then head to Iga Warta, arriving at approximately 6:00 pm. After our meal on this evening, we are welcomed by the Adnyamathanha People.

We stay overnight in Iga Warta (in permanent tents with camp stretcher. Or there is an optional upgrade to a twin share bungalow).

Day Three

We spend this day with Adnyamathanha People, learning about their culture and environment.

After breakfast we visit an Ochre pit where we learn about the colours, purpose and history of the pits.

After lunch we participate in a tour to the Malkii Painting site where you can immerse yourself in one of the oldest cultures in the world, and learn the interpretation of rock art through Adnyamathanha eyes.

We return to Iga Warta for our evening meal, which includes a supper of traditionally cooked damper and urti jam. Then we join our hosts at a traditional campfire where you will hear Adnyamathanha music and Yura Muda storytelling.

We stay overnight in Iga Warta (in permanent tents with camp stretcher. Or there is an optional upgrade to a twin share bungalow).

Day Four

On this day you will learn about native plants and their uses, such as for bush tucker and bush medicine. We will take a social history tour and learn about Adnyamathanha contact history of the area.

After the traditional cookout evening meal, you can participate in the Adnyamathanha language information sharing circle

We stay overnight in Iga Warta (in permanent tents with camp stretcher. Or there is an optional upgrade to a twin share bungalow).

Day Five

We depart Arkaroola for Adelaide, travelling via Chambers Gorge and Blinman. Our first stop will be Sacred Canyon, where we can stretch our legs on a short walk into the gorge. Sacred Canyon is one of the major Aboriginal art sites in the Flinders Ranges.

We head to Quorn after lunch at Wilpena Pound Resort, driving through Buckaringa Gorge and Warren Gorge along the way (if time permits).

We enjoy afternoon tea at Melrose and then continue on to Adelaide, arriving at approximately 6:00 pm.

Operates: On demand, approximately 8:00 am day one to 6:00 pm day five.

BOOKING CONDITIONS: A deposit of 20% is required to confirm your reservation. Balance is payable 21 days prior to departure.

CANCELLATIONS: Must be made 14 days prior to departure or full deposit is forfeited.
