DAY YORKE PENINSULA TOUR:
DAY
1: Depart Adelaide at approximately 8:00AM for the
Yorke Peninsula via Port Wakefield. Our first stop is
Wallaroo where we have morning tea in one of South Australia's
best known holiday areas, popular for its safe swimming
beach.
After morning tea we stretch our legs with a walk along
the jetty . From Wallaroo we head to Moonta (in 1861 it
was one of the richest copper mine in Australia). An optional
tour at Moonta is a visit to the Wheal Hughes Copper Mine
where you can experience the underground tunnel and cathedral-like
workings of this copper mine.
Its
now onto Maitland and a visit to The Gap and Tiparra Rocks
(time permitting). Maitland is an agricultural town with
the main crop being barley. Port Victoria is our next
stop where we stop for lunch and a stroll along the jetty
and beach.
After
lunch we make our way to Marion Bay , a small town nestled
in coastal scrubland bordering Innes National Park. Overnight
Marion Bay or optional camping (tent) in Innes National
Park.
Day
2: After breakfast we head into Innes National Park
for a look at the spectacular ancient coastline. Innes
National Park is one of the Jewels of South Australia's
vast parks. It covers 9100 hectares and provides some
of Australia's most spectacular coastal scenery. The park
is rich in mining and seafaring history.
After
our visit to Innes National Park we begin our trip back
to Adelaide, following the scenic drive which follows
the coast to Edithburgh. It is along this road we stop
at Kangaroo Island Lookout. From Edithburgh we follow
the coast visiting the towns of Stansbury, Port Vincent,
(set in a beautiful sweeping bay with a backdrop of steep
timber covered cliffs).
At
Port Vincent we stretch our legs for a 2km foreshore walk
which winds its way to a cliff lookout. After our short
walk we head to Ardrossan and Pt Wakefield. From hear
we head to Adelaide arriving at your accommodation at
approximately 6:00PM.
